He was in the Spanish American War, serving two years (1898-99) in the Philippines. He is a farmer and has lived nearly all his life in Henry County. He resides near Port Royal, Ky.

He married, second, at Edina, Mo., Sept. 6, 1904, Hallie Golden, daughter of Louis and Sophronia (Funk) Golden, who was born near Hurdland, Knox County, Mo., in May, 1874.

James Oscar Humston, son of Amos Dewitt and Martha Frances (Sams) Humston, was born at Turners Station, Henry County, Ky., Sept. 5, 1874, and lived in that county until 1900.

In that year he moved to Knox County, Missouri, and after a residence of five years spent in farming in that state, he moved to Kansas. He was a street car motorman in Topeka for three years.

In 1911 he moved to Dayton, Ohio, where he also was a motorman for the street railway company.

He died at Dayton, Nov. 24, 1924, and is buried at Port Royal, Ky.

Ernest Johnston (1847-1918) of Lewis County, Missouri, was the son of Richard M. (1815-1885) and Elvessa ( Berry) Johnston, grandson of Sanford Johnston (1790-1870), and great-grandson of John Johnston (1757-1832). The latter was a Revolutionary soldier from Culpeper County, Virginia. He moved to Shelby (later Henry) County, Kentucky, about 1792 and died in Henry County, where his will is recorded. Richard M. Johnston witnessed the will of Thomas 5 Humston in 1854 in Henry County.

Ezra Sams Humston, second son of Amos Dewitt and Martha Frances (Sams) Humston, was born Feb. 16, 1876, about two miles east of Turners Station, Henry County, Ky.

He attended the public schools until the death of his father, when it became necessary that he work to support the family, but his life-long interest in education has led him to study in his leisure hours, subjects even including foreign languages.

In January, 1901, he moved to Knox County, Missouri, where he was engaged in farming for the next six years, and for a short time he operated a harness shop at Hurdland.

While at Hurdland in 1908, he became interested in railroading and entered the employ of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company. He was located a year at Gibbs, in Adair County, and was then transferred to Bosworth, Carroll County, where he was a telegraph operator for nineteen years.

In 1928, he was appointed agent for the Santa Fe at Wyaconda, Clark County, Mo., and now resides at that place.

He is a member of the Virginia Historical Society, the Kentucky Historical Society, and is co-author of this genealogy.

During World War I he served in the United States Navy and was wounded by an explosion of a depth bomb. He received degrees of A.B., B.S. in Science, and B.S. in Education at the Central Missouri State Teachers College, Warrensburg, Mo., in 1923, and his Master’s degree in Education at the University of Chicago in 1932. He is a member of the faculty of Thornton Township High School, Harvey, Ill., where he is head of the elementary science department. Leona is a graduate of the Bosworth, Mo., high school, and attended Central Missouri State Teachers College, Warrensburg, for three years. She was a teacher for four years before her marriage. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, through service of Edward4. They reside at 239 E. 150 th Blvd., Harvey, Ill.

He married, second, at Louisville, Ky., July 31, 1928, Anna Lee Harned Pearman, daughter of Phillip Lee and Alice (Uptegrave) Harned, who was born in Hardin County, Kentucky, June 28, 1898. She lives in Trotwood, O.

William Jesse Humston, youngest son of Amos Dewitt and Martha Frances (Sams) Humston, was born three miles west of Port Royal, Henry County, Ky., Sept. 14, 1888, and lived there until about 12 years of age. He then went to Missouri with his brother and remained there three years, attending the State Teachers College at Kirksville for one term.

He returned to Kentucky and lived at Owensboro five years, then went to Dayton, O., where he was a street car conductor for a number of years.

In June, 1918, he entered the service of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, first as a brakeman, and in 1921 he was promoted yard conductor at the Dayton terminal of the railway, the position he held at the time of his death. He contracted typhoid fever at a dinner of Baltimore and Ohio employees on April 3 and died May 20, 1940. His home was in suburban Trotwood, where funeral services were held, and burial was in Memorial Park.

Asher Duncan Humston, son of Amrose Booton and Tina M. (Stewart) Humston, was born two miles west of Port Royal, Henry County, Ky., Dec. 30, 1882, and lived thre until about 10 years of age.

He then moved with his parents to Pleasureville, Ky., and resided there until about 1915, when he returned to the vicinity of Port Royal. He lived about three miles west of that place in the Lacie community, being engaged in farming. He died June 3, 1935 and is buried in the Port Royal Cemetery.

Price Humston, son of Minor C. and Hannah Neal (Bush) Humston, was born in Clark County, Kentucky, Nov. 21, 1871.

He was in Milwaukee, Wis., prior to his marriage, then moved to Chicago where he lived seven years. He lived for a time in San Bernardino, Calif., a year in La Junta, Colo., and four years in Lexington, Ky. In 1917 he went to Akron, O., where he was employed by the Goodyear Rubber Company.

After two years of ill health, he died May 1, 1933 and is buried in Holy Cross Cemetery, Akron, O.

He then moved to Evansville, Ind., where he was a railroad employee. He was also a farmer.

The date of his death is unknown, but he is said to have lived near Litchfield, Ky., where he died. In recent years no contact has been made with his family, and the whereabouts of his children is not known, although some may live near Litchfield, Ky.

He was manager of a wholesale hardware company in Minneapolis for several years, and later was organizer of chain stores and a bond salesman.

He later was a pharmacist and health officer.

He now resides at Goodland, Ind., retired from active business.

Lewellyn Claude Humston, son of Milton Lawrence and Lucy Amanda (Nichols) Humston, was born at Brook, Newton County, Ind., Feb. 12, 1869, and lived there during his early life.

Later he moved to nearby Goodland where he spent the rest of his life. He was a pharmacist, and died Dec. 7, 1907. Burial was at Morocco, Ind.

Dr. Charles Ethelbert Triplett of Morocco, Ind., (1862- ) was son of Dr. Charles Ephriam. He married Eva Rosella Carpenter (1862-1892), daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Hartson) Carpenter. Their children where William Earl, Charles Clarence, Vance, Charles Eugene, and Lora Ethel Triplett. He married, 2 nd, Blanche Carpenter and had a daughter, Alice Triplett. Dr. Charles Ephriam Triplett was son of Charles Morehead Triplett of Fleming County, Ky., grandson of John Hoar and Susannah (Morehead) Triplett of Fleming County, who was born in Fauquier County, Va. Charles Ephriam Triplett (1834-1917) married Alice Pulver (1840-1908), and died in Morocco, Ind. Charles Morehead Triplett ( -1834), married Clarissa Dawkins, daughter of Thomas and Martha (Landon) Dawkins.

Noble Griffin Humston, son of Oscar Mortimore and Lenora (Sams) Humston, was born at Campbellsburg, Henry County, Ky., April 2, 1878.

He was graduated from the high school there and was a farmer. The home was about one mile south of Campbellsburg.

He died Oct. 9, 1918 and is buried at Campbellsburg.

Charles Maynard Humston son of William Johnson and Mary (James) Humston, was born at Bloomington, Ind., April 9, 1856.

He was in the railroad and express work all his life, starting in with his father in the station at Mitchell, Ind. He remained there for a number of years, later entering the employ of the Adams Express Company.

He was stationed at Cincinnati, O., and later moved to East St. Louis, Ill. He did at that place in May, 1905, and burial was at Mitchell, Ind.

Frank Beeler Humston, son of William Johnson and Mahala (Smith) Humston, was born at New Albany, Ind., June 6, 1864.

He entered the service of the Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville Railroad when he was 18 years old, and was with that company for many years, except from 1895 to 1899 when he was a circuit clerk of White County, and from 1899 to 1903 when he was disbursing officer of the United States Census Bureau, Washington, D.C. He was once a candidate for Congress.

He wrote, in a letter to a railroad friend, there wee two Democrats in Wheeler, Ind., that believed him to have the makings of a good congressman, but the “word of one railroad boy to another would make it more binding.” The Railroad Telegrapher, XLIX, 906.

He was division freight and passenger agent for the Monon at Indianapolis, Ind., where he died Dec. 16, 1924.

Orville Roy, son of James Edward and Philistia (Wood) Humston, was born July 4, 1879, in Hendricks County, Indiana.  In his youth he may have lived on a farm and also in Danville, in that county.

As a young man he went to eastern Nebraska, where he became a farmer near Valley.  He died July 15, 1961, and is buried at Elk City.

James Harvey Humston, son of Wilford Louis and Narcissa Ann (Saville) Humston, was born near Xenia, O., Aug. 22, 1855.

He went with his parents to Washington County, Iowa, when he was about 13 years old, and continued to reside there. As a farmer he attained marked success by his industry and close attention to business interests.

He retired from the farm and resided in Washington, Ia., dying there Sept. 17, 1932.

Granville Clay Humston, son (twin) of Wilford Louis and Narcissa Ann (Saville) Humston, was born in Washington County, Iowa, Aug. 10, 1870, and has lived in that county all his life, except for four years in Adair County, Missouri.

He was a farmer and stockman for many years, and is now in the real estate business and lives in Brighton, Ia.

Halleck Powers Humston, son of Harvey and Ellen (Powers) Humston, was born near Xenia, Greene County, O., May 22, 1868. He attended school in Caesarcreek Township and later studied at Xenia College and National Normal University of Lebanon, O.

Hal entered the lumber business in Caesarcreek Township where he conducted a sawmill for eight or nine years. He began training horses and breaking colts, operating a training stable for a number of years. He was an excellent trainer of horses and a lover of fine stock. In November, 1901, he entered the livery and feed business in Xenia as a member of the firm of Humston and Grottendick.

Besides his interest in horses, Hal was an enthusiast in all sports. He loved hunting and shooting and was a gun club member. He was prominent in the Odd Fellows and was state representative of the lodge. He was not a church member but was a Hard Shell Baptist in his belief. He died Sept. 14, 1912, of typhoid fever, and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery at Xenia.

He married, second, at Xenia, O., Dec. 8, 1894, Della Olive Hendrickson, daughter of George and Margaret (Dunn) Hendrickson, who was born near Xenia April 5, 1877. She lives at 35 W. McPherson St., Dayton, O.

Oliver Creighton Humston, son of John Allison and Edna (Waln) Humston, was born near Xenia, O., Feb. 24, 1869 and lived in or near that place all his life.

He was on the Xenia police force for a number of years and had a splendid record of service. He died Oct. 16, 1914 of tuberculosis, and is buried at Xenia. He was an Episcopalian.

He, his wife and four children were red-haired.

He was a telegraph operator for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Co. He was stationed at Bosworth, Mo., when he was stricken with typhoid fever. He died at Santa Fe Hospital, Fort Madison, Ia., Aug. 30, 1917, and is buried at Durham, Mo.

William George Humston, son of William Robert and Harriet (Roberts) Humston, was born at Durham, Lewis County, Mo., Feb. 25, 1896. He was agent for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company at Hurdland for a number of years, and is now in the company’s employ at Carrollton, Mo.

Earl Humston, son of Elliott and Linden and Gertrude (Funkhouser) Humston, was born near Edinburg, Shenandoah County, Va., Jan. 30, 1891. He is a farmer, and owns the farm about one mile southwest of Edinburg formerly possessed by Edward4, after his removal from Fauquier about 1800. Earl has a home in Edinburg, Va.
